Angina is a suffocating, choking pain, usually
presented in the form of "angina pectoris" which is felt
in the chest. The pain is felt or brought on by exercise
and relieved by rest, and occurs when the blood supply
to the heart is inadequate.During exercise, the demand
for blood (supplied by the coronary arteries) is
increased and if the supply is insufficient, because the
arteries are damaged , chest pain results. The coronary
arteries may be damaged by atheroma (blood clot), the
most commom cause of angina.
¡@
(a) Angina feels like a pressing or squeezing pain,
usually in the chest under the breast bone, but
sometimes in the shoulders, arms, neck, jaws, or
back. Angina is usually precipitated by exertion. It
is usually relieved within a few minutes by resting
or by taking prescribed angina medicine.
(b) Angina may happen during physical exercise,
strong emotions or extreme temperatures. Some
people, such as those with a coronary artery spasm ,
may have angina when they're resting. There are four
types of angina: Overworked angina; Spontaneous
angina; Variant angina an Microvascular angina.
(c)The Diagnostic Tests include Electrocardiogram
(ECG) at rest and Coronary Angiography (examination
of coronary blood vessels).
