Causes of the disease: 1. Blood stasis due to stagnation of Qi:
Blood stasis results from disharmonious temperament,
stagnation of qi from liver, or surgical wound,
which causes this disease.
2. Stagnancy of cold and dampness:
When a woman suffers from cold or gets into water at
menstruation or after pregnancy, coldness will
intrude into the main and collateral channels,
causing stagnancy, which will cause this disease.
3. Combination of stasis and heat:
Damp-heat remains in the body too long, which blocks
the blood circulation. The combination of stasis and
heat causes this disease.
4. Blood stasis due to deficiency of kidney:
Deficiency of qi from kidney, or kidney damage after
getting sick for a long time, blocks the circulation
of blood and qi, causing this disease.
Clinical Manifestation: 1. Blood stasis due to stagnation of Qi:
The patient feels some distention and pain in the
abdomen, her waist aches, she either suffers from
constipation or always feels like defecating. The
above symptoms get worse at menstruation. Blood with
clots, swelling in the pelvic cavity, pale tongue
with white fur, tense pulse.
2. Stagnancy of cold and dampness: Pateint
has cold pain in the lower abdomen before
menstruation, prefers to be kept warm; has soft
faeces, pain in the back and waist, severe pain
during menstruation, cold hands and feet,
deep-purpled blood with clots, swelling in the
pelvic cavity, pale tongue with white and greasy
fur, weak pulse.
3. Combination of stasis and heat: pain in the
lower abdomen before menstruation, pain in the
waist, dry or warm faeces. The above symptoms get
worse during menstruation. Excessive menstruation,
scarlet blood with clots, swelling in the pelvic
cavity, pale tongue with red tip, light yellow fur,
string-like pulse.
4. Blood stasis due to deficiency of kidney: The
patient has pain in the waist, legs feel weak, less
desire for sex, excessive menstruation or little
menstruation with drip-drop, more pain in the waist
after menstruation, swelling in the pelvic cavity,
pale tongue with thin fur, deep and thready pulse.
This ailment,
according to TCM, has different syndromes. The treatment for
these syndromes using herbal medicine and acupuncture is shown
below.
To treat byHerbal
medicine Prescrption/Formula: 1) Regulating the flow of qi and removing blood
stasis:
Taoren(Peach seed), Chishao(Red peony root),
Caihu(Chinese Thorowax Root), Zhiqiao(Orange fruit),
Yuan hu, Chuanlianzi(Szechwan Chinaberry fruit) at 10g
each; Honghua(Safflower) and Chuanxiong(Szechwan lovage
rhizome) at 6g each; Shengdi(Rehmannia root) 12g;
Danggui(Chinese angelica) 8g; Xuejie 4g, and Shixiaosan
20g.
2) Warming the channels and dissipating the coldness
Rougui[Cassia bark(put in later)], Sanqi[Sanchi(to be
stirred)] at 4g each; Ganjiang(Zingiber),
Chuanxiong(Szechwan lovage rhizome) and
Xiaohuixiang(Fennel) at 4.5g each; Danggui(Chinese
angelica), Chishao(Red peony root), Yuanhu,
Moyao(Myrrha) at 9g each; Shengpuhuang(Cattail pollen)
and Wulingzhi[Trogopterus dung(decocted with wrapping)]
at 12g each; Xixin(Manchurian wildginger) 4g.
3) Cooling the blood and invigorating the circulation
of blood
Baijiangcao(Dahurian patrinia herb),
Hongteng(Sargentgloryvine stem), Muli(Oyster shell) at
30g each; Danpi, Chishao(Red peony root), Ezhu(Zedoray
rhizome), Chuanlianzi(Szechwan Chinaberry fruit),
Dibiechong(Ground beetle) at 10g each; Danshen root 15g;
Zhijun 9g; Dafupi(Pericarpium Arecae) 12g; Shijianchuan
20g.
4) Benefiting the kidney and enriching qi
Bajirou, Xianlingpi, Chuanduan, Tusizi(Dodder seed),
Dangshen(Tangshen), Puhuang(Cattail pollen), Chishao(Red
peony root) at 12g each; Huangqi(Milkvetch root) 15g;
Danpi, Taoren(Peach seed), Xicao, Xiangfu(Nutgrass
galingale rhizome) at 10g each; Honghua(Safflower) 6g;
Ruxiang(Frankincense) and Moyao(Myrrha) at 5g each.
2. Simple Prescription: 1) Dahuang Guangchong Wan:
swallow 5g each time, twice a day(people with similiquid
stool cannot take it). 2) Dilong, Wugong(Centipede),
Shuizhi(Leech), Mengchong(Gadfly), Guangchong, each in
equal quantity, ground into powder, swallow 3g each
time, twice a day. 3) Qiwei Xinxiao Wan: swallow 2g each
time, twice a day(applied to the syndromes of
Combination of stasis and heat with fever at
menstruation). 4) Leigongteng(Common threewingnut root)
150g, add 1000ml.water to it, decocted with gentle heat
for two hours, remove the residue and concentrate it to
500ml., put into the refrigirator (4C) for application,
finish it within 7 days. Take 25ml.(equal to 7.5g of raw
herbs) internally each time, twice a day. Stop taking it
at menstruation. Start from 15g per day, after 6
periods, guadually reduce the quantity to 5g. This
medicine may reduce the immunity of body fluid.
Simple Prescription:
1) Dahuang Guangchong Wan: swallow 5g each time, twice a
day(people with similiquid stool cannot take it).
2) Dilong, Wugong(Centipede), Shuizhi(Leech),
Mengchong(Gadfly), Guangchong, each in equal quantity,
ground into powder, swallow 3g each time, twice a day.
3) Qiwei Xinxiao Wan: swallow 2g each time, twice a
day(applied to the syndromes of Combination of stasis
and heat with fever at menstruation).

To treat by Acupuncture and
Moxibustion
1) filiform needle: Zhongji(RN3), Guanyuan (RN4),
Qihai(RN6), Sanyinjiao(SP6).
Generally speaking, Qigong is good for healing
effect of this specific ailment, however
individual results may vary. It improves the
flow of the qi and the circulation of the blood,
so you'll experience more energy, but, you won't
see/ feel any immediate effects, as with many
exercises and therapies, it takes a few weeks or
even months of practice before you'll see any
significant improvements.

(b) Medicated diet
1. Danshen Root(Danshen) 20g, Chinese
Angelica(Danggui) 20g, Beef from the leg(Niutui
Rou) 250g, Liquorice Root(Gancao) 3g. Clean the
beef, cut it to small pieces; wash the herbs,
put them into a pot together, boil for 1-2
hours, then add some flavourings. Eat it as you
much as you like.
(c) Life style
1. Scratching should be avoided; during acute
onset, the affected part should not be bathed in
hot water.
2. Refrain from eating seafood, eggs, beef,
mutton, chicken and pungent food.
3. Alcohol and soft drinks should be avoided as
well.
