As we
all may know, life hasn't been a "piece of cake" for all
of us. Some stressful events may happen suddenly
or unexpectedly. Others might be more predictable and
may continue for a numerous amount of years. Sometimes
stress is just a part of life, which can be irritating.
A stressful event can cause a variety of effects on
different types of people depending on how each person
experiences it. Some people are more resilient to stress
than others. Some people are more vulnerable individuals
who find even minor problems unbearable. The symptoms of
stress usually resolve over a period of days to weeks,
in some cases they persist for a long time or evolve
into a more serious condition. Having an unpleasant
reaction to a stressful event is entirely “normal? The
essence of stress disorder is an inappropriate or
excessive emotional or behavioral response that is
maladaptive, which far exceeds what would be expected
given the severity of the stressful event, and makes a
bad situation worse.

(a) The emotional or behavioral symptoms developed
in response to a stressful event or to a chronically
stressful situation.
(b) The stressor keeps reexperiencing the event in
different ways, such as upsetting memories or
nightmares; flashbacks that it is happening again;
or having a severe reaction whenever he/she is
exposed to anything that reminds him/her of it.
(c) The patient avoid things that are associated
with the traumatic event; can not remember the
details of what happened; feels detached from
everyday life; has trouble in sleeping and
concentrating; has angry outbursts.
(d) These symptoms persist and cause either severe
distress or problems with school, work or other
people.
Many
cases of stress are successfully treated by the
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approach. Most of the
cases show a lot of improvement after two to three weeks
of treatment. However, the treatment should be longer
for post-traumatic stress disorder.
This ailment,
according to TCM, has different syndromes. The treatment for

Syndrome (a)
Heart-mind disturbance
A
heart-mind disturbance causes an emotional dejection,
mental illness, a quickened heart rate, restlessness,
dream-disturbed sleep that often wakens the patient and
causes poor appetite. The patient may also be frightened
easily. The tongue coating would be white and the the
pulse would be rapid and thready.

you can calm the heart, mind, and sedate the person's
nerves.
To treat by Acupuncture and
Moxibustion Therapeutic principle: By using the points mainly
from Pericardium meridian of Hand Jueyin and Heart
meridian of Hand Shoyin, calming the heart and mind and
also relief of fright can be achieved.
Syndrome (b)
Liver Qi stagnation
turning into fire
Liver
Qi stagnation turning into fire may cause emotional
depression, restlessness, an irritable temper,
dizziness, head distension, difficulty in falling
asleep, congested eyes (red and tired eyes), a bitter
taste in the mouth, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and
constipation. The tongue coating may be thin and yellow
while the pulse is wiry and rapid.

you can eliminate the liver fire and compose hyperactive
Yang, while also calming the mind.
To treat by Acupuncture and
Moxibustion Therapeutic principle: By using the points
mainly from the Gallbladder meridian of Foot Shaoyang
and Liver meridian of Foot Jueyin, you can eliminate the
liver fire, moisten yin and compose hyperactive Yang.
Syndrome (c)
Phlegm- fire disturbing
upwards
Phlegm-fire disturbing upwards causes emotional stress,
irritability, insomnia, lack of appetite and excessive
mental activity. There may also be an increase in
physical energy with violent behavior as well. The
tongue would have a yellow greasy coating, and the pulse
quick and thready.
To treat by Herbal
medicine Therapeutic principle: By using herbal medicine,
eliminate the fire from the heart and liver while also
dispelling the phlegm and resuscitating the mind.
To treat by Acupuncture and
Moxibustion Therapeutic principle: By using the points
mainly from the Du channel , Heart meridian of Hand
Shaoyin and Liver merdin of Foot Jueyin, you can
eliminate the fire from the heart and liver while also
dispelling the phlegm and resuscitating the mind.
Qigong, generally, is good for relieving anixety
and stress as well as improve the circulation of
qi and blood. As a result, it provides a good
healing effect for this ailment. Despite an
increase in energy, you won't see or feel any
effects right away, it takes several weeks,
possibly months of practice before you notice
any effects.

(b) Medicated diet
1) Jujube (dazao) 10g, Baked licorice
(zhigancao) 6g, Light wheat (fuxiaomai) 50g,
make soup to eat, once every other day.
(c) Life style

you of the event.
