Directions of research on Chinese Medicine
With its unique theories and realistic curative effects, traditional
Chinese medical science survived and developed hitherto with strong vitality.
TCM has profound scientific connotation. In the development of life sciences
and the global trend of returning to the nature, the breakthrough of the
traditional Chinese medical science will contribute much to the mankind.
I. Research in Chinese Medicine
The research chiefly covers two contents: First, utilization of the modern
science's testify, the exaltation of TC theories. Secondly, the treatment
of Chinese Medicine for the difficult and complicated diseases.
1. Exaltation of TC theories
With thousands years of history, the scientific nature of TCM has been
proven by the practices. It's an important mission to testify Chinese
Medicine with modern science. In the past decades, molecular biology developed
rapidly, especially the interpret of the human genome sequence has come
to the summit and offered good chance for the improvement of Chinese Medicine
theories in the following aspects:
First, it has annotated the basic theories of Chinese Medicine. Till
now with the development of modern iatrology, people are inquisitive about
the interaction among the gene, cell and organic apparatus to make up
of the perfect human body, about the mutual influences between human body
and the environment. It will annotate the entire viewpoint and individual
viewpoint of Chinese Medicine from the aspect of science.
Secondly, it has illustrated the functional mechanism of Chinese Medicine.
The discovery in functional gene and mutant gene will illustrate the functional
mechanism of the health-fitting function and curative function of Chinese
Medicine.
Thirdly, to develop new medicine. To sort out new medicine and realize
the modernization of Chinese Medicine in the historic clinical experiences
with the theoretical knowledge of gene science and hi-tech means.
2. To cure the difficult and complicated diseases
Chinese Medicine may cure almost all diseases with its original curative
methods. Curing the most difficult and complicated diseases is the pride
of Chinese Medicine. TCM has tremendous achievements in curing difficult
and complicated diseases such as the functional, and diseases in immunity.
One female clerk in our company suddenly has an unusual illness: all of
her skin was tumorous and flashing, ruga disappeared and then her face
turned like a mask, her toes turned into purple, her hands could not be
stretched out, her legs could not squat and she experienced severe pains.
The Western doctor diagnosed as the sclerodermina, which was self-immune
disease, one of the acknowledged difficult and complicated diseases at
present. The Western doctor treated it with the hormone and antifibrinolytic
medicines and commune preparation. But by this treatment method, the Western
doctor could only relief the pain but not cure the disease completely.
Afterwards, she found an old herbalist practitioner after hearing about his
fame. According to his clinical experiences for years, the herbalist practitioner
thought he should nourish the spleen and kidney, dispel chill, and open
up body channels. Under his unique treatment by opening up body channel
method, the female clerk was cured without any recrudescence.
Hepatitis C is deemed amongst the incurable disease by the Western doctors,
only the interferon may provide relief. But interferon is expensive and
only effective in one patient out of five, with the side effects of headache
and melancholy. Therefore, in China, the practitioners widely adopt Chinese
Medicine to cure Hepatitis C, they have gained significant amount of experiences
and achieved sound cure. They conducted strict and stochastic comparative
clinical experiment contracting clinical experiment for one year and finally
processed all data with statistics. The experiment shows that the method
has sound curative effect compared to the contrasting group.
II. Research on Chinese Medicine
Primarily the research on Chinese Medicine covers the following three
aspects: (1) the establishment of standard production technical system
of qualified Chinese traditional herbals; (2) the research of the modernization
and internationalization of the qualified varieties of Chinese patent
drug; (3) to set up the research of a series of standard patterns of Chinese
Medicine.
Sanjiu Group and the Global Strategy of Chinese Medicine
Origin of Sanjiu Group
In earlier 1970's, I worked in the South Hospital of the First Military
Surgeon University in Guangdong Province. As per the statistic information,
we noticed that the morbidity for the residents living in a certain prefecture
in this Province was evidently lower than those of other prefectures.
We investigated this prefecture and discovered that these residents were
conditioned to cure tummy bugs with obtusilic and kamuning. Afterwards,
we mustered 17 experts and developed out after 15-year's experiments and
research "Sanjiu Weitai" with the main ingredients of obtusilic
and kamuning. In 1985, as a pharmacology professor, I took three fruits
of science and technology: "Sanjiu Weitai", "Zhuanggu Guangjiewan"
and "Zhengtianwan" and RMB5, 000, 000 loan to Shenzhen Special
Economic Zone and set up Nanfang Pharmaceutical Factory. As the leading
product of the Factory, "Sanjiu Weitai" had gained the praise
of the patients by its accurate curative effects and advanced type and
became one of the preferred medicines to cure gastritis at home. Hereby,
Nanfang Pharmaceutical Factory began its swift development. In 1991, we
incorporated the enterprise group named in "Sanjiu". At present,
Sanjiu Group has made itself a large-scale comprehensive group composed
of hundreds of auxiliary enterprises with a gross assets of RMB15, 000,
000, 000 and intangible assets of RMB4, 900, 000, 000 and the largest
phytopharmacologic medicine base in China.
Research Directions of Sanjiu Group
In the scientific research, Sanjiu Group adopts the models in Western
medication to evaluate Chinese Medicine scientifically including the basic
research and clinical research. It selects the Chinese Medicine with accurate
curative effects and extensive use to distill the active ingredients from
them with modern technology and then adopts the models in Western medication
to conduct the pharmacological and toxicological research preceding the
clinic. On this basis, it has set up corresponding clinical models to
evaluate the safety and efficiency of Chinese Medicine with religious
science attitude.
